James Bolivar Manson, Night Scene (c. 1900)
James Bolivar Manson (26 June 1879, London – 3 July 1945, London) was an incredible impressionist painter, working at the Tate gallery for 25 years. James was incredibly selective of the works that came to Tate, only interested in works in impressionism and dismissing newer artistic movements like Surrealism and German Expressionism, thus labeling him “The Least Successful Director in Tate’s History”. During his run as a director, he declined in to depression and alcoholism.
